DEADLINE: Open Call

DOCTORAL RESIDENCY FELLOWSHIP

The International Center for Terrorism and Transnational Crime (UTSAM - www.utsam.org ) was established in 2006 under the Department of Research Centers of the Turkish National Police Academy.

With its highly qualified and specialized team of researchers, UTSAM merges theory with practice and generates information particularly for policy-makers, decision-makers and practitioners in various fields of security such as terrorism, transnational crime, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, organized crime and cybercrimes.

Within this mainframe, UTSAM has improved cooperation with national and international research centers and security actors and organized several seminars, workshops, conferences and symposia. UTSAM continues to contribute to the academic world, decision makes and security actors as well as acts as key supporting partner in Turkish Journal of Security Studies (TJSS).

UTSAM invites applications for up to nine-month Doctoral Residency Fellowship starting in a mutually decided time after securing the founding. We are interested in proposals that involve comparative perspectives and methods of understanding security (conceptual and practical), Islamphobia and rising far right in general, and terrorism in particular.  UTSAM is an interdisciplinary forum for innovative research on socio-economic, political, and cultural explanations and analysis of security in global perspective, with a focus on the Middle East and Europe. The main goal of the UTSAM is to encourage research on security in a comparative perspective.

UTSAM provides to the fellows affiliation, working space, and other resources of the Turkish National Police Academy while conducting their research in Ankara. During their residency the fellows are expected to contribute to research projects at the center and hold public lectures. The language of research environment at UTSAM is English and Turkish.
