ONE-ON-ONE FRIENDSHIP

One-on-One Friendship is a cross-cultural, internet-based social network intended to advance cross-cultural network and engaged leadership through shared knowledge and collaboration for social justice. Through 1on1friendship.com, mentoring is also available for middle school, high school, and university students with an aim towards advancing academic skills. At the moment, our mentoring program is on English conversation and cross-cultural topics.

Meet Our Volunteers

Alessandra Haversat

Alessandra Haversat, nicknamed Allie, is a Freshmen at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She is originally from Connecticut, however now resides in New Jersey. She is a graduate of Gill St. Bernard's Preparatory school. Alessandra enjoys the classes she is taking and in her free time hangs out with friends and likes to run long distance.

“Hi I’m Arsalan! I’ll be a junior at Hobart College this fall semester and plan to graduate with a B.S. in Computer Science. I also am minoring in Economics and Religious Studies. I’ve been fortunate enough to have received a great education which allows me to participate in cross-cultural conversation and help others in unique opportunities like this. I look forward meeting you all !”

“I am a double major in International Relations and Political Science with a minor in Music. I will graduate this May, with plans to work in peace and human rights in Washington, D.C. I volunteer because I believe that cross-cultural conversation about social justice is a critical path to peace.”

"Salaam alaykum, my name is John and I live and work in Chaska, Minnesota, USA. When I'm not working, I enjoy keeping honey bees and riding bicycles.

I converted to Islam several years ago. I was lucky enough to learn Arabic in college, and I read the Qur'an as soon as I was able. In large part because of the wonderful Muslims I became friends with, I knew I should be a Muslim!"

“I am a junior at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I am a double majoring in Psychology and Education. I plan on attending graduate school after college. I enjoy conversing with people and learning about different cultures. I hope to provide mentorship and gain knowledge to promote social justice and activism.”

“I am a Religious Studies and Music double major at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I expect to graduate in 2019. I went to Reading Memorial High School in Reading Massachusetts. At HWS, I sins in the Colleges’ Chorale and the acappella group Perfect Third. After college, I plan on going to grad school.”
