Please see the call for applications below: The Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Department of Religious Diversity in Göttingen is offering Two Postdoc Positions The Department of Religious Diversity invites applications for two full time funded postdoctoral positions for the research project on new media and religious politics. This project is investigating new media dynamics, political Islam and political Hinduism in South Asia and among the South Asian diaspora in EuropeThe objective is to examine the ways that the Internet media facilitates and reshapes new transnational networks of religious politics, and its ramifications for South Asian politics and diaspora cultures. Postdoc 1 The successful candidate will explore Internet enabled new media practices and political Islam among the South Asian diaspora in the UK and Germany. Ethnographic fieldwork among the diasporic Islamic communities and major organizations for political Islam connected to South Asia is expected. A background in Islamic studies or proficiency in Urdu/Arabic is desired. Postdoc 2 The researcher will carry out an ethnographic study of online practices among the Indian diaspora and major organizations for political Hinduism in the UK. The postdoctoral fellows will design the study concerning these themes, lead fieldwork, and collaborate with other researchers working on the project. Candidates with a PhD or close to finishing a PhD, and with research interests in media and South Asia are encouraged to apply. This full time fixed-term post for two years will begin in July 2015 or as soon as possible after this date.
