Who can start a local club?

  • Students in consultation with their teachers or faculty members at middle school, high school and college levels can start a local club. 
  • A minimum of 15 students is required.

How do I start a local club?

  • Sign up or sign in on www.1on1friendship.com.
  • After sign in, click club.
  • Click CREATE.
  • For a middle school local club, only the advisor will be able to register its members. 

What does a local club’s leadership look like?

  • The local club’s leadership consists of the Club President, Secretary and Treasurer.
  • A faculty/teacher advisor provides advice and suggestion for the local club’s leadership and activities. 
  • Members of a local club serve as the club’s planning committees. 
  • Any variation of a local club leadership is acceptable in so far as it fulfills the major function of the One-on-One leadership structure.

Will there be any information session, webinar, or training to help me run the local club?

  • The information session is available upon request.
  • There will be skype, or google mentoring
  • Online training and webinar will be available throughout the year.

What activities do local clubs offer?

  • The local club’s leadership board, the advisor, and the local club’s planning committees meet for the first time to discuss the structure of the organizations, bylaws, and goals to be achieved and to plan events every year.  
  • The local club’s leadership board, the advisor, and the local club’s planning committees create bylaws that reflect the club’s needs and programs. The Hobart and William Smith Colleges provide the example of their Club’s Bylaws.
  • The local club’s leadership board and the advisor meet monthly.
  • The local club’s leadership board and the club’s planning committees meet weekly and execute special events.
  • Local clubs at middle and high schools work collaboratively with the advisor in nominating students with financial need for scholarship.
  • Local clubs could plan and offer events depending on their local need and priorities. Events could include programs such as fundraising, mentoring, volunteering, leadership training, teleconferencing, online training and other activities. 
  • Local clubs could collaborate with other local clubs to plan and execute programs.

What should I do to acknowledge the impact that my local club makes?

  • You could post any information, events, photos, and videos about the local club’s impact on the website of www.oneononefrienship.com.
  • You could also create a newsletter to be distributed to funders, parents, students, and school officials.

What benefits do I get from my Club’s membership?

  • You will be part of the movement and networking for social justice.
  • You will learn social justice issues and what you could do to make impact locally and globally. 
  • You promote friendship and pen pals with conscience for social justice locally and globally.
  • You share your passion for social justice with your peers.
  • You practice leadership and event organizing skills.
  • You expand your network globally, especially with the US Clubs and work collaboratively to address social justice issues.
  • You make your parents proud because you give them a good name.

What benefits do advisors receive from advising the local club?

  • They will receive a certificate of appreciation for each academic year they are serving as advisors for the local club of the One-on-One Friendship.
  • They share their passion with students and make impact on the latter.
  • They are helping their students to become better leaders, communicators, community organizers, and thinkers.
